I belong to three library book clubs and of the twenty or so books I've recently read, I think six are worth reading.  They are:

The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Sijie Dai
Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant

But my favorite books are those that can make me laugh out loud.   So, I need to check out Gable's recommendations.   I found one funny book that I'm reading now, that is pretty darn funny.   It's called, "Enslaved by Ducks."   It's about a husband who is reluctant to bring pets into his life and his wife who feels the exact opposite and how they adopt birds, rabbits, ducks and how he comes to love them and spends moste of his time taking care of them.  When his first rabbit dies, and he didn't think he was that fond of it, it's hilarious to read about the memorial he builds to it because he misses it.

I completely understand that feeling, Gable.    I am usually overwhelmed with all the things I have to do and all the things I make for myself to do.   If I decide to sit down to read it book, it means that something isn't getting done around my house that has a much higher priority.   My life is a mess and usually it suits me just fine.   Not my family though. :)   There's nothing like trying to sit down to relax and read a book, and a husband keeps wandering in and out of the room scowling at you because you're not making him dinner or doing the wash.

omg Hubby would love it if I would sit down to read a book!  Instead of up and down cleaning and or feeding or just something around here..My body gets tired but my brain keeps running..if I don't make a list and or write a thought down I totally forget what i am doing and start something else... if I don't clean i can not complain about a neighbors house not being cleanhalo eww geez okay no sleep for me tonight! (it gives me nightmares) Shoot I was outside in the storms today cleaning the backyard...yes I crazy..But I will be able to go to the library tomorrow and maybe I will find something interesting.

Well, Gable you DO sound crazy and funny in your last post.  Your stream of consciousness certainly does suggest you are on overload now too.   I, personally, would LOVE to see my neighbors out in a storm cleaning their yards.   My kind of people.   Very charming.  As it is, my neighbors would probably think you ARE crazy - but, sad for them, they are stuffed shirts (and it doesn't sound crazy to me.)   You see, I am wont to go out into my backyard and start cleaning my swimming pool at midnight not finishing until a couple of hours later.   Sometimes, I am cleaning my yard (weeding, I like to weed) when it is dark outside.   I like the dark.  Oh, I also like nightmares because they are more interesting than regular dreams, and it is heavenly when you wake up and your relax and your real life suddenly feels so wonderful.  So cleaning your backyard while it is storming sounds perfectly reasonable and maybe fun too.

I wonder if my house is clean enough for you.   I used to be very neat, but I can't keep up anymore with the slobs I live with, and so, I've tried to adjust my attitude and relax more into their style.   My oldest son is about as slobby as I think is humanly possible.  I think I may have relaxed too much though.

Here's to being and staying crazy, and, hopefully, you'll find some time to read some books soon too.

I have 3 cats but hey they just demand to eat...no cleaning after them..I love doing yard work at night or cleaning at nite I wish I could get out there and cut grass and make lots of noise lol with all the yard toys we have...
Oh and trust me if you saw neighbors house you wouldn't like the nightmares that follow...I don't sleep I doze...shoot forgot to go to the library...gotta go...

Reading is my greatest pleasure. Some of my favorite authors include...

Nora Roberts writing as JD Robb...Set in fruturstic New York City...Crime, humor, and a love story all wrapped up in fanatastic plots

JR Ward's "The BlackDagger Brotherhood"...Hot, sexy, good guy vampires. Did I mention SEXY??

Phillipa Gregory..Her take on Tudor and Elizabethen England is fantastic! Some of the best and truest histortical ficition ever

Mauve Binchey...Beautifully written books set in England and Scotland

Rosamund Plischer...Very similiar to Ms. Binchey..I have read all the books by these 2 authors many, many times. I call them my "comfort" books

Ed McBain/ Evan Hunter...His books about the fictional cops at the 87th preceint are absolutly the greatest decetive novels ever. He is also responsible for doing the screen play for Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" among others

George RR Martin...for my Sci fi fixtation. He is the best..bar none!

Patrica Cornwell...The Kay Scarpetta books about crime, murder, and mystery

Marion Zimmer Bradley's Avalon books are so well written and fasciniating

There's tons more, I read every day of my life. Can't iminage a life without books!
