This week, I'd like to cover the animals in Wandering Willows. There are over 40 animals in the game. Each and every one of those animals can be your pet.
What does your pet do?
Your pet does 3 things: Climbing Digging Charming Pets climb trees to knock down fruit. Pets can also dig up items from little mounds of dirt like copper, ginger, etc. Finally, pets can charm other wild animals. If you click on a wild animal, your pet will send out a charming call to that animal. After a series of calls, the wild pet will become charmed. Charmed animals will then leave a little gift for the player. They can leave gems, wool, or eggs! You can take eggs back to your stable to incubate. When they are done incubating, they will hatch into a new pet!
How are pets different? Well, some pets are faster at climbing, some are faster at digging, and some are better charmers than others. Each pet also has a special perk. These perks range from digging up rare metals more often to receiving eggs from charming more often. There are quite a few different perks, so I won't list them all here. In addition, you can outfit your pets with special collars which enhance them. That's a whole other topic though…

Wandering Willows is a mysterious place in the middle of the ocean. Things that have flown or sailed near Willows have been amazingly unlucky and crash landed on the shores of Wandering Willows. It has drawn not only people from present day, but people from all eras of time. Let’s meet some of the people who now call Wandering Willows their home.
Art Gunderson
Art is in his 60s or 70s but don’t let that fool you. He’s still incredibly spry and active but he’s not without his eccentricities. Perhaps it’s senility setting in or maybe it’s because he’s from the 1970s, but he enjoys dressing up in all types of strange clothing.
Sally Blueberry
Sally is one with the earth. Organic, green, vegan, locally produced. These are all things that Sally lives by and sometimes even takes to an extreme. Never one to disturb the karmic balance in the universe, she is always ready to help others live more green.
Debbie Katz
Debbie’s a city girl who was a flight attendant on a plane that crash landed in Willows. A perennial gum chewer and nail filer, Debbie always has time to help. It’s in her job description! No one knows what she uses to keep her hair standing up like that though.
Trevor Scrimshaw
Trevor’s shipwrecked pirate ship can be seen along the southern shores of the tropics. On the outside, Trevor looks like a gruff, prickly individual but really he’s one big soft teddy bear. You can always go to Trevor for advice on hair styling, personal hygiene, and interior decorating. What secrets lie hidden in Trevor’s locker?
Those are just some of the many characters you’ll meet in Wandering Willows. This is really only the tip of the iceberg.
In Wandering Willows, the two most fun things to do are cooking and making clothes.
Let’s talk about cooking first. To make a dish, you need the recipe to tell you all the ingredients. Let’s look at the recipe for an apple tart:
• 1 apple • 1 wheat • 1 butter
Pick an apple off a tree, plant some wheat in your garden, buy butter at the store, and you’ll have everything you need! Once you have everything, cooking is just as easy as clicking a single button.
Making clothes works much the same way as cooking except the ingredients are a bit different. You’ll often be growing cotton in your garden or digging up dye in mounds of dirt. Sometimes, you’ll need to charm wild animals for their wool. The great thing about clothes is that you can wear them!
What’s the point of cooking and making clothes?
Cooked dishes or clothing are always worth more than the sum of their ingredients. That means that a cooked dish gives your pet more energy than if you were to feed him each ingredient separately. Giving characters clothing gives you more friendship than if you were to give them each ingredient separately. They’ll also wear the clothing, too!
A favorite pastime of mine has been dressing up the characters in the game. I’m always surprised by what outfits people come up with. Here are a few:
The game might be a little different from what everyone is used to but we hope you enjoy it. For those who didn’t get to try it, I’d like to describe it. Here’s the opening story:
You decide to take a break from stressful city life and sail a balloon around the world. A storm blows you off course and causes you to crash in the land of Wandering Willows. The inhabitants of Wandering Willows are a bunch of happy, go-lucky folk that are from all different time periods. You and your pet will be helping these folks out and getting into many adventures while exploring this strange and whimsical land!
The game is what we’re calling an Adventure Role Playing Game or Adventure RPG. You get to create your own avatar (you can see mine in my profile pic) and choose your gender, hair, eyes, etc. You’ll help people out with their daily tasks as they help you fix your balloon. With the help of your pet, you will garden, pick fruit off trees, dig up items, create new clothes, cook food, and collect new pets.
This game is at least twice as long as most casual games. Also, the world is about five times the size of what you explored in First Peek.
