RE: Chocolatier 3 Decadence By Design

I am going to roll against the tide of popular opinion here, but this just was not my type of game at all.
I found that I couldn't care less about the price of peanuts in Peru, and that wacky chocolate bar making machine just about drove me to drink.

Hi teenks,

Just a question for you: did you try Chocolatier 1 and 2 as well?
The problem is that with certain chipsets in your computer, the aiming (in the chocolate machine) is way off.
I could easily make 30+ boxes of normal chocolat in the first two games, but only 5 in this new release. Maybe your computer has that chipset as well. Try playing the first two games, and if chocolate making is much easier there for you, then you'll just have to wait (with me) for a bug fix. They seem to be working on it.

Marcel.

Ohmigosh, mv!  Aeieie!  That is a real downer!  I've logged onto and off the game several times without a problem.  I can't imagine what happened.  Did you create more than one player?  [Don't mean to insult your intelligence, there].  I really feel for you.

p.s.  off-topic -- every time I go to type your screen name, I want to express it as "mV" -- like millivolt from my engineering secretary days.  My fingers just do it automatically!  I'm sure I did it bunches of times at PF -- so now you know why!

@ Cruzer: My husband took over the desktop so I can't check the game, but I think it starts Jan 1, 1946.
EDIT: I snuck a peek while he was taking a break. The start date is June 27, 1946

@ mV (millivolts, teehee!) I completely feel your pain. Yesterday, after working on the new spreadsheets for 5 HOURS, the game inexplicably crashed & deleted my player's progress. Needless to say, that sucked.

@ Teenks: But do you care about the price of tea in China? Wait, did I miss a port in China? Do I have to start all over...AGAIN?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

The new Chocolatier is even better than the second. I love the new coffee making minigame, and I love the new African locations. I do miss the colored ingredients.

I also love how you can create your own recipes.

@alevy: lol! smile.gif

Many games from PF crash once in a while, or still have obvious bugs. You still wonder why nobody sees and reports them.

I really hope they remove the bugs soon.

Marcel.

@Alevy!  Stellar job with the walkthus!  I am stunned to think of the commitment of time and energy to prepare them!  Kudos to you!!  They're just beautiful!

@Marcel:  Three is a problem reporting thread at PF for DC3 with participation by PF staff members.  But I'm sure there are more people experiencing trouble than report.  I myself froze up on my first truffle purchase and lost identity and progress; then I started another game and the same thing happened.  Arghh.  Decided on a Saturday nap instead!

What's up with Honduran Cacao?

I see a lot of people asking about Honduran Cacao. It is found in Xunantunich, which opens near the very end of the game after you own the shop in Baghdad. But here's the thing:

You can complete the game without using or buying it! Unlike the last Chocolatier, you do not have to make every recipe in the book to win. No quest that I came across required a recipe that used Honduran cacao.

Double check the recipe you need & see what your missing ingredient is. Chances are you need is pumpkin, which can be found in Tokyo, Wellinton, & Bogota.

ALevy shared a tip on the PF forums that I got excited about, so I thought I would share her tip here.

If you want to make a week or two pass while staying in one port, buy small increments of some cheap product you need at the market -- keep buying 4 or 5 times and hitting Okay each time to exit and the time will pass!  I think it's wonderful!

Thanks, Alevy!

In both of the active saves I have for the game I need either Sesame seeds - which never open up in Tangiers - or Honduran cocoa for the Blended varietal truffles.

Has anyone heard of a patch for the missing sesame seeds yet?

And if not exactly *what* opens up the port with Honduran cocoa? Can I get around the shop purchase in S. America or am I basically screwed?

Thanks ahead of time. :)

Go read Alevy's walkthrough in our Walkthroughs and Game Experts thread...I think she wrote that you dont need Honduran cocoa....and not sure about the sesame seeds....there are some recipes you do not need in order to finish the game....hope her walkthrough answers your questions....

Thanks for the reply. :)
I have read the walkthroughs already too. I don't like posting until I'm absolutely certain there isn't an answer; and I know she said one doesn't need Honduran Cocoa but my game is telling me something completely different. I have three saved games now and 2 require the missing sesame seeds to pass the "get your third shop" quest and the 3rd does in fact require Honduran cocoa.

It's the sesame seeds I'm more worried about though.

Hi azafran!
Actually, all of that info is in the walkthroughs, but there is SO much info there, I can see how it's easy to overlook things.

First, the sesame seeds (Quest List Page 5):
Quest: Colombian TreatsAction: Take 25 Mediterranean Coffee & 65 Sesame Ginger Colombian Truffles to Pedro in BogotaGiven By: Evangeline BaumeisterReward: Recipe for Mediterranean Coffee/Opens Seasame Seeds/Recipe for Orange Pecan Stars

So go see Evangeline in SF. That will open the seame seeds for you in Tangiers.

THe Ingredient Location sheet shows that Xununtunich offers Honduran Cacao ONLY, but the recipe you need isn't Blended Varietal DARK Truffles, you need Blended Varietal PUMPKIN truffles. So, no, you don't need Honduran cacao to finish the game. You need pumpkin. In fact, Xunantunich won't even open until AFTER you own all 5 shops & have the endorsements of all of the board members.

Hope this helps, & if you have any more questions, please post them. I'll be on& off all weekend, but I'll be sure to check in. Good Luck!

Alevy, That seems like a common issue a ton of players are having actually with those dark truffles. I think I've read that question over at PF too from a lot of people who were stuck. I wonder why they made it so similar as to confuse the two? Or why they did artwork for an ingredient you dont actually need? Is there even a recipe ANYWHERE that requires that Hondoran Cocoa (not just the ones you need to finish the game) or is it a complete oversight on the game developers part to have not used one of the ingredients...or do you think someone was actually clever enough to have done it on purpose to throw people off (which I believe is highly doubtful).....

There are a few recipes that use Honduran cacao, but you aren't required to make them to finish the Story Mode. Plus you can use it in your last Creation, if you like.

I think they added that cacao so people will have something new to do when the story is finished. One of the common complaints of the 2 previous versions was that after "winning" the story, you could still fly around to make & sell chocolate, but there was nothing new & no real challenge. With new recipes & special orders, you receive new challenges & can continue to up your average weekly score.

As for the names of Blended Varietal Pumpkin Truffles & Blended Varietal Dark Truffles, I have no idea why they chose to use such similar names. I think it was just an oversight. After all, both do use blends of varietal cacao, which makes them different from most of the other recipes. I guess the developers just said "it fits, let's use it" without any other thought.

The scoring of this series has always been a pet peeve for me...the flying around to up your score thing in particular....it would seem to me that the higher your score, DOES NOT necessarily mean you are the best player....as you've taken too long to complete your task, hence racking up more points...

It should be the more effective player you are, ie: The most points in the fewest weeks necessary to end the game. When we had the Chocolatier Challenge at PF, that was really the way to look at it, but the game developers never caught on.

Congrats, Ben!  Way to go.

I totally agree with you, Latte.  I try to travel so economically and get everything done in the least amount of weeks.  I do think the hallmark of a good player is the most points in the fewest weeks.  Playing yet another round to see if I can beat my previous score.  This is a great game -- has so much to recommend!

Hi everyone,
I actually have a question about Chocolatier. I was hoping that someone here could help me.
I seem to be stuck, I can't gain ownership of any shops because I can't get Zachariah's African Cocoa. I don't have access to Doualan cocoa.... And I also can't make the third, nor the fourth coffee. I think one of them is a cinnamon blend, at least from what I've read.
I don't know what went wrong, but I've been flying around for a while now...and I have a lot of money but nothing to do with it!

Thanks for any help you can provide. :)

Mztweeta -- Pecans are available in Kona.  I found I got most quests when I made sure to create, make and market my special creations.  Hope that helps!

Hi there thanks for the wonderful walk through.  My problem now is that nothing is happening.  I have all the recipes through the truffles and am working on the coffee blends and the exotics.  Now though I've been flying around for weeks and nothing new is happening.  I've gone to every town and checked all the buildings and nothing.  I got a couple of telegrams with orders but nothing else.  What in the world do I do?  Its seems that I need the lady at the Peru market to offer me a job and she just isn't.  How long does it take?

Hi Mystee!
Make sure you don't have any available places to make new Creations and that you don't have any open quests other than getting the endorsements of Whitney in Wellington & Joseph in Toronto. An open slot in the recipe book will prevent you from going further. Then check in with Joseph. He should send you to Keylla in Lima. And don't turn down any orders from Morochika at this point.

I had a lull in the action each time I played, too. It shouldn't last long. Hopefully, you're already past it, but if not, let us know.
