I got an Amazon Kindle for Xmas....anyone recommend any good books for me to download....??? What is it about, who is it by, and why do you recommend it?
An amazon kindle?? Nooooooooooooooo. This small devil's machine is threatening the good old books. Anyway, does not matter to me.
I would recommend you "Gonzo" by Hunter S. Thompson. It's a kind of biography, but very weird, and with a good sense of black humor. He is also the author of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"

I actually love to read good old paper books....but it was a Christmas gift from mom, so I guess I will use it....or send it to Gable...she wants it BAD! lol.
gonzo? does it have anything to do with "gonzo" as style of writing, which i recently learned about and practised? it is something like i write a review on a show but in my writing there is NOTHING about the show actually - so its like "writing off-topic". kinda silly, i know.

you are absolutely right. Actually, Hunter S. Thompson is known as the inventor of "gonzo journalism". I would not say that its exactly "writing off-topic", but this journalism emphasized the subjective views of the author and was more spontaneous than before. I have to admit that I dont know much about this subject, but that's what I've learned from Thompson's biography. This man had such a crazy life...I still cant believe it.

yes, thats it. You buy a book for a lot less than you can get them at the bookstore, average price $3.99-9.99, then you download them and read them. Kinda like an IPOD for books basically, about the size of a large paperback.
I love to read real books, and I love to keep the books I love or share them with friends. However, I now have a ton of books. I tried to weed some out and donate them. I never ever ever throw a book out. But this new gadget might be nice too....and keep me from being a clutter hog. So I dunno...I cant feel really cozy about this machine thingy, kind of ruins the whole curl up in bed with a good book thing. But I've heard its great for taking on vacations and things....although, how hard is it to put a paperback in my backpack? And I've heard you have to carry them on planes anyway, not to put them in your luggage or they will be gone when you arrive. They cost $350 on Amazon, plus the cost of the books. Glad it was a gift!
I would regift it to Gable if I didn't think my mom would ask how I liked using it, ...and then check up on it as she is known to do....
So Gable....I'm sending you a pack of granny panties instead! Woot!
Oooh speaking of which....I still have this new dang Ipod Nano sitting here Gable!!...Well...it was new a year ago....now its still new and unused sitting on my puter desk. Waiting for you. lol.
Btw, (hey 3 posts in a row....lol....kinda reminds me of...oh nevermind)....my spidies have a few ends that are yellow...is that cuz I had them in the water that day? Should I just clip them off? The Indian bulbs are on their way soon I hope! Then I can send them with the IPOD. You want anything else? lol.
EW! Darby just burped. Gross! *note to self: Send Darby to Gable's house too!*
oh true, you're hearing aids aren't that good. I forgot....okay, so the ipod sits here another year....great! lol. Dust collector. Never even opened the box....
Btw, this new avatar is Darby after her grooming with a pink bow in her hair. Cost $60. Lasted: 4 minutes. lol. Yeah, that was worth it!
Thanks for clearing that up Latte, lol! I was just sittin' here lookin' at her picture and trying to figure out the little pink thingy in the picture. Awww, so cute!!
clip the ends of the spiders....won't hurt them will just square off the ends...do you have them in sun light? direct? or what? they need warmth too if they are pale they need more sun and warmth

I waited till there was a tiny bit of space between dirt and pot, then I just watered them. I was afraid I had over watered them when they first arrived. Now I'm clipping ends.....I also have a huge poinsetta that I am going to try to keep alive....not sure though, once they start dropping leaves, its over. 2 are by the window, 3 are on the end table middle of room, 3 are in the kitchen, no direct light there.
Hi, I just found this and wanted to add my 2 cents. I will never ever buy/read a book that way. Like you, Latte, I have books everywhere in my home. In every closet, bookshelf, top of stairs, basement. etc.
The objective was to build a study/Den in Amanda's living room when she moved out (never gonna happen ) and have surrond bookshelves.
I have never even listened to an audio book. It just don't seem right to this little gal who was raised in libriaries (sp)
Latte, I have a poinesetta that is 6 years old. It never blooms, though.
MANHATTAN, Kan. For plant lovers who hung on to last years poinsettias, there are ways to make them flower again this holiday season, according to a Kansas State University horticulturist.
Poinsettias are known as short-day plants. That means that flower formation is triggered by long periods of uninterrupted darkness, said Ward Upham, horticulturist with K-State Research and Extension.
Plant lovers can start by placing the plants in the sunniest location available during the day. The plants need the light to draw enough energy for good bract coloration, Upham said.
But the next step is just as critical. Poinsettias also need at least 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness.
Providing uninterrupted darkness can be a problem, unless theres a room in which the lights are never turned on, he said.
If such a room is not available, he suggested that the poinsettia be placed in a dark closet or covered with a cardboard box each night for the needed 12 hours. If using the box, all seams should be taped with duct tape to cut off any light.
Poinsettias take eight to 11 weeks to flower once the dark treatment has been started, Upham said.
Normally dark treatment starts in early October. Having six weeks, with 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness is critical, he said. For every night in those weeks that the poinsettia doesnt get 12 hours of darkness, two days should be added to the bloom time. After the six-week dark treatment, the buds have set and the dark treatment is no longer needed.
Nighttime temperatures also have an effect on poinsettias, Upham said. They tend to like temperatures in the 60- to 65-degree F range at night and at 65 to 75 degrees F during the day.
It may also help to feed them high phosphorus fertilizers when you bring them into the light. When you look at your fertilizer you should see 3 numbers. The most common is 15-30-15. The middle number is phosphorus. It promotes larger flowers.
Wow ljot, I am impressed! This was some awesome info. I too took my Grandmother's Poinsettia after she passed away. It was 7 years old and huge and lush and beautiful but never bloomed! Now I know! I am so excited!
Its funny in reading this topic my mom had a poinsetta after christmas in 2007 she set it outside and then brought it in this past christmas and it got red leaves on it and bloomed we were amazed I didnt know they could do that when you didnt do anything to them and all she did was water it.
Okay, my poinsetta is dropping its green leaves, drying out, even though I can feel the soil is still damp. The red "flowers" are still fine. But its starting to look spindly! HELP!!!!!
But...but...but...they are getting all dry and crunchy!! I DONT WANT CRUNCHY LEAVES!!! How can they be dry when the soil isnt? Yes the stems are green.......
